Gonca Soygüt

Gonca Soygüt is a professor at the Department of Psychology at İstanbul Şehir University, Turkey where she has been a faculty member since 2016. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Hacettepe University. She completed post-doctorate studies at the New School for Social Research, New York, USA as a visiting scholar and worked with Jeremy D. Safran. She also attended to meetings of Psychotherapy Research Laboratory coordinated by J. Safran and C. Muran at the Beth Israel Hospital (1997-1998). 

She founded Hacettepe University Psychotherapy Research Laboratory in 2005. She was the principle investigator of a psychotherapy process research project which was supported with a research grant by the Turkish Scientific and Academic Council (2005-2008). She is the founding director of the Clinical Psychology M.A. program and of Psychotherapy Research Laboratory at İstanbul Şehir University, and of the Schema Therapy Institute, Turkey since 2016. 

Her substantial research interests lie in the area of psychotherapy process in terms of relational variables (e.g. interpersonal schemas; early maladaptive schemas, schema therapy model; therapeutic alliance; change in psychotherapy processes). Currently, she conducts qualitative and quantitative research on psychotherapy processes held in the framework of schema therapy model. More specifically, her ongoing research projects include thematic analyses on therapeutic alliance rupture moments; comparisons on rupture and pre-dropout sessions; examination of schema therapy model by hermeneutic single-case efficacy design study; case series and task analysis of therapist interventions. 

She is recognized by the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST) as an advanced level certified schema therapist, trainer, supervisor and reviewer for certification committee since 2009. Soygüt is certified by Turkish S (NAC) European
